Within the scope of the Framework Agreements in place with RFI for the renewal, upgrading and maintenance of the power supply systems of the railway lines in operation, GCFE has taken charge of the maintenance of the 3kV Electrical Substations of Voghera and Tortona, falling within the AQ 81 – 2018/2021, North West Lot.

The technological upgrades planned for these substations are of a strategic nature, since both the Voghera and Tortona plants will contribute to the 3kV power supply of the future Milan-Genoa High Speed line, currently under construction..

After a careful evaluation of the client’s specific needs, the company developed ad hoc design choices and proposed innovative solutions in terms of efficiency, costs, space management, reliability and maintainability of the renovated plant.

VOGHERA 3kV SUBSTATION

For the Voghera plant, 2 prefabricated boxes were installed with 2 units of 3.6 MW, supplied in MV (15kV), alongside the two existing units, respectively named ‘D’ and ‘E’.

During ‘Phase 2’, the existing plants were then renewed, including:

  • Civil works for the total renovation of the HV 66kV yard
  • Redistribution and adaptation of the 3kV substation from the first floor of the existing building to the ground floor, previously used as a warehouse. Within the new premises, the various systems were installed, including switchboard room, feeder cells and day rectifiers
  • Design and commissioning of the SCADA in accordance with the design standards and the latest technical specifications of the Italian Railway Network (RFI DTC ST E (RFI DTC ST E SP IFS SS 500, “Sistema di governo per sottostazioni e cabine TE a 3kV c.c.”)

TORTONA 3kV SUBSATION

At the Tortona substation, GCFE arranged for the supply and commissioning of 2 sets of 3.6 MW: one in HV (15kV) and one in HV, 66kV.

Scope f work included the complete renovation of the building, including civil works and drainage system, and the installation of:

Presso la sottostazione di Tortona, GCFE ha predisposto la fornitura e la messa in servizio di 2 gruppi da 3,6 MW: uno in MT (15kV) e uno suo carro ferroviario (sottostazione ambulante di proprietà di RFI) in AT, 66kV.

I lavori per il potenziamento dell’impianto di trasformazione hanno previsto il completo rinnovo del fabbricato, comprensivo di opere civili e sistema di drenaggio, e l’installazione di:

  • 7 prefabricated boxes laid to form a single, homogeneous construction, surmounted by a common pitched roof and designed to contain the subsation equipment
  • 2 units of 5.4 MW (armoured rectifiers)
  • 10 feeders and the same number of switchboard disconnectors, 8 of which are dedicated to the historical line and 2 for the future Milan-Genoa HS line
  • New switchboard room
