The Light Rail Transit (LRT) system in Aarhus, the first of its kind in Denmark, is designed to manage the growing passenger demand in the Danish city and offer citizens an innovative, efficient and sustainable transport system.

The project consists of 14 km newly constructed double-track light rail line passing through the most densely populated part of the city as well as the electrification of two existing rail connections north and southbound.

GCFE, having as a customer Hitachi Rail (member of the ASAL Consortium), has been awarded the EPC contract for the design and construction of the contact line and supply system, including the local SCADA.

The contract includes the construction of a new 750VDC tramway line (14 km), the electrification of 110 km of regional railway lines connecting Aarhus to Odder (southbound) and Greena (north eastbound) and the Depot.

In December 2017, the first 7 km section of the city, from Aarhus Central Station to the University Hospital, entered into commercial operation.

In the summer of 2018, the suburban line to Odder (south) started operating, followed in April 2019 by the completion and start of operation of the line to Greena (north) and the entire urban network.

GCFE made a decisive contribution to the realisation of this important project.

A new milestone for the company that adds to other significant successes in the field of urban public transport, both nationally and internationally, such as the Metro Line C in Rome and the Metro do Porto in Portugal.
